SHARE YOUR PERFORMANCES.

Welcome to the Friends Videos 2024 Project, created by Erica Sipes and Sandra Mogensen!

This project was created to help celebrate Women's History Month and to help bring more awareness to the invaluable resource that can be found in IMSLP. We wanted to give our projects friends around the world an opportunity to share piano pieces composed by women that have scores on IMSLP on our YouTube channel. Our goal was to create a fun way to promote lesser known pieces and composers and to encourage music making and sharing in pianists of all levels and ages.

How to submit your video:

  • We need unedited videos in mp4 format. You don’t need fancy equipment. iPhones work quite well for both sound and video. We take care of the editing.

  • Submissions should be of music that has a score on IMSLP. We sometimes do make exceptions so do ask us if you’re interested in recording something different.

  • We don’t expect perfection which is why we ourselves do our recordings in a single take for anything on our channel. We want this to be a community driven, fun experience that makes music making and sharing something for everyone.

  • If you’re a teacher, consider having as many from your studio as possible submit recordings.

  • To get us the recordings, contact us by clicking on the button below. That’ll take you to an online form. Or email us at pianomusicshewrote@gmail.com

Erica: One of our favorite things is seeing all the fabulous music listed on our online directory being played by friends around the world. During Women’s History Month, which is March, we especially like to celebrate by getting as many people as possible to share what they’ve discovered with our community on YouTube. No matter the age or level, we encourage anyone interested to send in submissions for our Friends Video Project!

Sandra: Not only is it important for recording artists to bring these lesser-known pieces and composers into the limelight. Studio teachers, students, and amateurs also have a big part to play in shining a light onto this music. That’s one of the reasons we started Piano Music She Wrote. The music on IMSLP is easy and free to access but often times there aren’t recordings of these works. So many of us choose our repertoire by listening to it first. Our hope is that our Friends Video Project will help in this process and will inspire and encourage pianists young and old(er).

SHARE YOUR COMPOSITIONS.

Are you a woman who composes for piano, and do you have a piano composition you’d like us to record for our YouTube channel?

We will be releasing a “Piano Music She Writes” video at the beginning of each month and including it in our Piano Music She Writes playlist . We’re accepting compositions for our consideration if they:

  • are less than 4 minutes long, or in the case of a multi-movement work, a longer total duration is fine if the individual movements are short

  • are no higher than late-intermediate in difficulty

If selected, we will record a video and post with information about how to purchase the score.

Click on the button below to get in touch with us about how to submit scores.
